Better Than Paradise
to Yasin Hassan Omar
|
Your error scaling up the
recipe,
your ratio mistake exalted me,
the day you detonated and announced
that ‘God is Great’ then looked around to see
a tube train on a Thursday afternoon,
not paradise lit by a crescent moon.
You taught me wings can reasonably rise
from fertile falsehood and from the cocoon
of woe I left among the smoke and heat
and heels abandoned under Warren Street.
I bought a watermelon going home,
a whole green world, irrational and sweet.
